A DINOSAUR TOYS AROUND WITH LUMIX LX3

After my lava trail experience with Boktor, my camera of six year, a Canon Ixus, that I  hardly ever used got soaked in the rain and died.  At this point, I should say that, at the time my Ixus died, I  started taking pictures just for the purpose of being able to post some together with my articles on this blog.

I began asking around about a camera that could replace my Ixus.  My requirement was simply this -it must be IDIOT PROOF - because, of course, this dinosaur was going to use it.  After much debate amongst my advisers about which between a Canon G10 and Lumix LX3 was the better option, I chose the Lumix LX3 because it was smaller and it looked better.

Since I bought my Lumix LX3, it has been on “iA” mode.  Although the manual says “iA” means “Intelligent Auto”, I think that is just the politically correct term for “Idiot Assistance”.  So, here are my Idiot Assisted shots that I took in a Japanese restaurant.

TO STAR: A POSTSCRIPT ON BUDDHISM

Borobudur Buddha in Padmasana

Star posted a comment about my 29 April 2009 article, Borobudur has taught me Buddhism. I was about to reply to her comment and post several pictures. Alas, this dinosaur does not know if it is possible to post pictures together with a comment and does not have time to learn about it now.  I am, therefore, posting my reply (with pictures) to Star.  You may find this bit of information interesting as well.

Star -  Wow!  I did not realize there is so much one could learn from a lotus.  Incidentally, I learned a pose in my yoga class some time ago.  The pose is called Padmasana.  Padma means lotus and asana means pose.  In his book, Light on Yoga, B.K.S. Iyengar says that Padmasana ”…is one of the most important and useful asanas.  It is the posture for meditation and the Buddha is often depicted in it.”  While the position of the hands of the buddhas in Borobudur change depending on the direction they face, all of them sit in Padmasana.  This is yet again another reason for me to believe that Borobudur takes its inspiration from the lotus.

Incidentally, I find Padmasana very difficult to do.  I always feel as is my legs would get stuck in that position and I would not be able to untangle myself.  As a result, I have yet to be able to meditate in this pose.

MY 88TH POST

Pea-Brained Dinosaur

In the cyber world, I feel like a pea-brained dinosaur.

I was stuck in traffic a few days ago when Nino, my cyber world guru, and I were texting each other about my blog. One of Nino’s later messages read: “How is the traffic?” To which, I immediately replied, “Where are you?” Then I started looking around at the other cars to see if Nino was in them. After what seemed like a long pause, during which time Nino was probably pulling his hair in frustration at how his cyber world student (that’s me) had utterly failed him, I receive this text message  – “I meant blog traffic.” After blinking my eyes a couple of times, I sent Nino a text to this effect - “Oh…blog traffic. Silly me, I thought you were referring to the road traffic. What is blog traffic anyway?” No response followed.

Well, this is my 88th post. I am still a dinosaur and it is starting to get embarrassing.

THIS DINOSAUR IS DETERMINED TO BLOG

Dino blogger

In the cyber world, I am a dinosaur.

Only recently have I learned how to attach a picture to an e-mail. Worse, I excitedly told my friend, Star, that my new laptop was so unique because all I had to do was to close the top and it would go to sleep. Star gave me a long stare and advised me never to tell anyone about what I told her since most laptops had this feature. Well Star, I am beyond embarrassment. This dinosaur is just determined to blog.

With the help of friends and my ever critical family, this dinosaur can finally post her articles. Thanks. In return, I will try my best not to pester you about the blog several times a day.
