PANDORA’S SIEM REAP TRAVEL TIPS (Tip 6)

Tip No. 6: Stay at the Villa Siem Reap.
In Siem Reap, there are accommodations fit for every kind of traveler. There are hostels and inns for those traveling on a shoestring budget, excellent hotels for those with a little more to spare and opulent resorts and spas for the Conde Nast traveler. Padma and I decided that, since we were not on a shoestring budget or Conde Nast travelers, we should stay in a mid-ranged hotel. We also decided against booking ourselves in a fancy-smancy place. We were happy to settle for a place where we had our own bathroom and clean sheets on our beds. This way, we would have more money to splurge on food and shopping.
Padma found us value-for-money accommodations at the Villa Siem Reap, which is located near the Old Market. Padma booked us the five-day package plus two extra days. For U.S. $ 35.00 a day per person, we got round-trip airport transfers, a clean huge air-conditioned room with two beds, a private bathroom, television, wi-fi internet connection, a dedicated driver and Tuk-Tuk for the entire duration of our stay, decent (and I mean decent) daily breakfast, daily packed lunches (which is a choice of a sandwich, pasta or salad and a drink), one day guided tour of Angkor Wat and some nearby temples, a Sunset Pack (which is a choice of red or white wine, Kalamata olives and cheeses served to you in a spot of your choice in the Angkor complex at sunset), salt water pool passes at Prince D’Angkor Hotel, and dinner and cultural show at a nearby restaurant (nothing great though). For $2.00 to $3.00 dollars we also got our clothes washed in the morning and returned to us in the afternoon.
I was very happy with our accommodations and have since recommended it to my friends. Those friends were likewise very pleased with what the Villa had to offer. If you want to learn more about the Villa, click here.

What are your other suggested travel destinations in Asia other than Cambodia?

It depends on what you want to do. If you want to shop for branded items, I suggest you go to Hongkong, Singapore and Malaysia during the sale seasons. Hongkong is also good for food tripping. Japan is beautiful and very rich in culture and tradition but everything there is expensive. I do want to go back there when the Cherry Bloosoms are out and when I have enough money for the trip. Thailand offers something for every kind of traveler. You can rough it out by traveling near the boarder of Burma and Cambodia, you can do tours of the different temples and palaces, eat to your hearts delight, go for a spa, shop and do a safari. The places I want to visit are Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Indonesia.
I do suggest that you visit places in the Philippines like Palawan, Boracay, Legaspi, Albay, Ilocos and Baguio. You will be amazed at what we have to offer. When I have the time to write about it, I’ll post some articles about Legaspi, Albay. Great place.
For those traveling with children, Thailand, Singapore and Hongkong are great destinations.

Thanks for the useful and detailed tips, dinosaur! I’ll be sure to bring a print-out of them when I do go on this trip.
